No, many people are not going too crazy about what the Bengals are doing on their way to a 7-0 start, and maybe one of the reasons for that is history. This team has made the playoffs six different times under head coach Marvin Lewis, and has lost in the first post-season game (wild card round) every time. What might be a little different here is the way this team has performed against the number. Cincy is a sizzling 6-0-1 versus the football pointspread.
There is also a difference in the way Andy Dalton has played. If you were to pick the MVP of the AFC, he wouldn’t be too far behind Tom Brady right now. Dalton has been as maligned as his teammates for playoff non-performance, so some people are taking this with a grain of salt. But there is no way to ignore his numbers, in which he has thrown 15 TD passes with just four interceptions and has an 8.6-yard average per pass. Josh McCown appears to be out of this game with rib injuries that have reportedly (well, actually reported by HIM) made it hard for him to breathe and to sleep. So now it is Johnny Manziel, who seems to know the offense better than he did last year but is still grappling with maturity issues.
