Steelers Want “Comfort” For QB Vick on Thursday Night Football
By Charles Jay
No one is really certain how long Ben Roethlisberger is going to be lost to injury; the Pittsburgh Steelers hope it doesn’t have to be that long. But there is perhaps some comfort in knowing that there is a four-time Pro Bowl performer who is ready to step in and take his place when needed.
Well, Michael Vick is indeed needed. But is he ready? That’s a big question for Vietbet customers to be asking themselves as the Steelers take on the Baltimore Ravens in Thursday night action that is set to begin on CBS at about 8:30 PM ET. Obviously the football betting continues throughout the game as the state-of-the-art software from Live Betting Extra proceeds to entertain you. Roethlisberger was hurt in the third quarter of Sunday’s 12-6 victory over the St. Louis Rams, as he had a mild tear of his left MCL, along with a bone bruise. Some of the medical people have opined that the bruise may complicate things, making the timetable for his return somewhat cloudy. But it may be that coach Mike Tomlin is counting himself fortunate that the Steelers signed Vick to a deal on August 25. The other side of that coin is that apart from eighteen snaps he took during Sunday’s game, he hasn’t had much time at all to work with the first-team offense.
Vick didn’t get any offers all through the summer, but it hasn’t been that long since he has started an NFL game; in fact, he filled in for the New York Jets last year when Geno Smith was injured. But he hasn’t worked for even a month with offensive coordinator Todd Haley, and the different styles between him and Big Ben will most certainly create differences in the approach.
Complicating matters, of course, is the fact that the Steelers are only going to have a practice or two with Vick because of the Thursday night start. And another factor for Vietbet patrons to consider involves whether Vick is really going to run from scrimmage all that much, as he did it in the past. Obviously that was not a big part of Roethlisberger’s repertoire.
But maybe he will be encouraged to exercise his mobility to its fullest. Tomlin has spoken about Vick “working within his comfort zone,” and that would seem to include some improvisation. At one time the former #1 overall draft pick was celebrated for his ground-gaining efforts, but there was a lot of wear and tear as well.
Baltimore comes into Heinz Field as a desperate 0-3 team. They have never had that record since the arrival of coach John Harbaugh and quarterback Joe Flacco. But the Ravens have always been a team that achieved, often going farther than many football betting observers expected them to. They know how to bottle up opposing running backs, going the last 29 games without yielding 100 yards to a single running back. But can they contain Vick? Until Sunday night, they didn’t realize they were going to have to.
