The New Orleans Saints are red-hot right now; so hot that they are doing things they are not familiar with doing since Sean Payton became the head coach. Saints vs Ram Odds – Week 12 NFL Betting Preview
The Saints lost their first two games of the season, to the Minnesota Vikings and New England Patriots, who are both leaders of their respective divisions. But since then they have run off eight consecutive victories, holding their opponent to 17 points or less in six of those. In all honesty, they haven’t faced a bevy of capable quarterbacks, and have been extended by signal-callers like Matthew Stafford and Kirk Cousins. In fact, in last week’s game against the Washington Redskins, they trailed by 15 points with time running out, but Drew Brees engineered a couple of touchdown drives to tie the game, completing all 11 of his passes on those two trips, and New Orleans won it in overtime.
The Rams have undergone a complete offensive makeover under their youthful first-year head coach, Sean McVay. How youthful, you might ask? Well, he’s the youngest head coach in modern NFL history, at 31 years of age. Needless to say, he’s brought some new ideas to the table, and has helped accelerate the development of Jared Goff, who was last year’s #1 overall pick in the draft but struggled mightily as a rookie. Now he’s got a lot more options and a nice ratio of 16 touchdowns to just four interceptions. The Rams did slip up last week, as they went to Minnesota and produced very little in a 24-7 loss to the Vikings.
That left Los Angeles with a 7-3 straight-up record (6-4 against the points), and they are one game ahead of the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC West. New Orleans also has a one-game lead in their division (the NFC South), as they are 8-2 straight-up and 6-4 against the points.
It was the design of Payton to create a more balanced attack, and that was the rationale behind the off-season move to acquire Adrian Peterson. But interestingly enough, Peterson just did not work out in the Saints uniform, and he was shipped off to the Arizona Cardinals for a low-round draft pick. That left former Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram and rookie Alvin Kamara in the backfield, and both have come through splendidly. Ingram, through 10 games, has 806 yards rushing and is averaging more than five per carry. Kamara has been a great two-way threat, with 459 rushing yards and 447 receiving yards. And he seems to just keep getting better and better.
VietBet patrons know that the Rams have a workhorse running back in Todd Gurley (791 yards), but they have more people for Goff to throw to, including rookie Cooper Kupp and Sammy Watkins, who was acquired from Buffalo during training camp. Robert Woods is the team’s leading receiver, with 47 catches for 703 yards, but he is questionable with an arm injury.
One thing that is worth noting is that the Saints faced somewhat the same kind of offense last week with the Redskins that they’ll see with the Rams, and that is because McVay served as Washington’s offensive coordinator last season, working extensively with Cousins. And New Orleans’ defensive unit has come on much stronger this season that it has in the recent past. We see the total on this game, but we also know that because the running backs are so good, the ground game might chew up the clock, so an “under” in the total is altogether possible.
