Ravens Looking to Keep Browns Winless
The Baltimore Ravens had an opportunity to take a major step toward an AFC wild-card berth last week, but they suffered a gut-wrenching loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. This week they should have a little bit of a softer touch, as they pay a visit to the Cleveland Browns, who are still looking for their first victory of the season, with action beginning at 1 PM ET at FirstEnergy Stadium. Ravens vs Browns Odds – Betting Preview
The Ravens came from behind to go ahead of Pittsburgh last time out, but the Steelers eventually overwhelmed them and won in the closing seconds 39-38. Baltimore has a vaunted defense, but they were torched by Ben Roethlisberger, who threw for over 500 yards, and Antonio Brown had 213 yards receiving, as the Ravens’ secondary, which was playing without Jimmy Smith, proved to be a little too thin. Of course, circumstances might be different this week, as the Browns have a rookie quarterback at the controls.
Cleveland got very close to victory last week, as they were up by 14 points in the fourth quarter against the Green Bay Packers. But they let the Packers and their second-string quarterback Brett Hundley come back, and then he threw the winning touchdown pass on a wide receiver screen to Davante Adams in the extra session. That was a huge disappointment, and a psychological level, that may be a whole lot to come back from.
Currently, the Ravens are 7-6 straight-up and 8-5 against the points, and they join a couple of teams with the same record in battling for the final playoff spot in the AFC. The Browns, of course, are 0-13 straight-up, and they are a dismal 3-10 ATS.
One thing that is encouraging for Cleveland is that Josh Gordon is back in action. The wide receiver, who led the NFL in yardage four seasons ago, has caught seven passes for 154 yards thus far, indicating that he has shaken off the rust from his suspensions pretty well. Rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer was intercepted twice, but he completed 20 of 28 passes, and Isaiah Crowell ran well, with 121 yards against Green Bay. Cleveland shook up its front office last week, firing Sashi Brown, who was their director of personnel, and that’s an interesting move, considering this team’s philosophy, which is to go in the direction of analytics. What will happen with Hue Jackson? Well, the management has indicated that he will stay on this season and into the 2018 campaign.
VietBet patrons who watched Baltimore play Pittsburgh last week became well acquainted with Alex Collins, the young running back who has really given this team a ground game. Collins has scored five touchdowns in his last four games and is averaging 5.1 yards per carry. When you can get somebody like that, it will make things easier on your quarterback. And Joe Flacco has helped this team put up 82 points in the last two games. But keep in mind that Cleveland is one of the better teams in the NFL against the run, allowing just 3.3 yards per carry.
As much of a disappointment Cleveland had in its loss to Green Bay, Baltimore was pretty crushed by losing to Pittsburgh, because that might ultimately make the difference between making the playoffs and watching them at home. But if you can believe it, Cleveland might actually be in a look-ahead situation, because at this point they are just trying to avoid going winless, and by far their best shot at a victory is next week against the Chicago Bears. If Baltimore comes out angry, it can create some distance here, so we will lay the points.
