Well, the Oakland Raiders came through when things seemed bleakest. As they had a nine-point deficit in the fourth quarter against the Kansas City Chiefs, the team rallied back with a dramatic touchdown in the final moments and have kept themselves alive in the playoff race. Now, Oakland (3-4, both straight-up and against the spread) will pay a visit to Upstate New York to face the Buffalo Bills (4-2 straight-up, 4-1-1 ATS) in a game that will begin at 1 PM ET at New Era Field in Orchard Park, NY. Raiders Bills Odds Online – Week 8 NFL Betting Preview
Derek Carr, who had missed a game with a fractured bone in his back, and seemed severely limited in terms of his range against the Los Angeles Chargers the week before, came back huge, throwing for 417 yards and three touchdowns. And he avoided taking a lot of punishment, going without a sack, which means he’s been dumped only nine times this season. So these are all good things about the Raiders’ performance. Of course, on the other side of the coin, Marshawn Lynch was ejected for making contact with one of the referees.
The Bills had a big win over Tampa Bay last week, as Tyrod Taylor managed to stretch the field a little, with 268 passing yards. And Buffalo, which had really had difficulties in terms of its explosiveness, got a boost from newly-signed wide receiver Deonte Thompson, who caught four passes for 107 yards. So they come into this game with some hope that they’ll have real balance in the offense.
The Raiders had been hurting on defense, and they did not necessarily put in a stellar performance against the Chiefs, allowing Alex Smith to pass for 331 yards. But they did a decent job against the run, yielding 23 yards less than their season average. Maybe one of the factors was their own new acquisition, NaVorro Bowman, who had eleven tackles. Of course, Bowman, who has been an All-Pro before with San Francisco, was released by the 49ers, who are rebuilding.
As always, part of the Buffalo game plan will be to move the football on the ground. That’s what they have done in the past, and that is what they have to improve upon now. LeSean McCoy is a key to that strategy, and although he is averaging just 3.4 yards per carry, he had 91 yards last week in the 30-27 victory over the Buccaneers.
But VietBet patrons will have to see if Thompson can have a big game again. After all, coming into this matchup, their top wide receiver had only a dozen catches. Taylor has been sacked 19 times already, although he’s thrown just two interceptions in 169 attempts. But that’s careful football; maybe the Bills have to wind up taking more shots downfield against a rather leaky Oakland secondary which has allowed 69% completions and does not have an interception through the first seven games.
Keep in mind that Buffalo also has the NFL’s best turnover margin (+10), and they have allowed only 84.5 rushing yards per game. So Sean McDermott, known as a defensive guru while it Carolina, has straightened things out on the stop end for this team.
