The Washington Redskins would like to move back to the District of Columbia. The city would like them back there too. But it doesn’t look like they will be going back there any time soon, simply BECAUSE they are the Washington Redskins.
Vietbet customers are obviously familiar with the whole controversy surrounding the team’s nickname, which has drawn criticism, after all these years, from Native American groups who claim that it is “offensive.” Now that has affected the team in the effort to leave FedEx Field in nearby Landover, MD, a facility that is only eighteen years old.
There have allegedly been numerous complaints from fans regarding the configuration of FedEx Field, and that has led to the removal of seats three different times in just the last five years.
2015 NFL Betting Preview – Washington Redskins
- Vietbet has the Redskins priced at +1500 to win the NFC East in their football futures, and the over/under on victories is just 6.5, so there is not a lot of faith out there. Some personnel additions were made to the defense, although the departed Brian Orakpo will be missed. Once again, it all hinges on what Griffin can learn and accomplish. And that may not be real good news.
But the team is probably going to have to stay put because the Obama Administration, and in particular the Interior Secretary, Sally Jewell, are uncomfortable with the name “Redskins” and would like to see it changed. In fact, if it is NOT changed, Obama will actively block efforts to build a new stadium in the land that RFK Stadium (home of D.C. United in Major League Soccer) stands on. And they can, because the land is owned by the National Parks Service and that is part of the Department of the Interior.
The Vietbet audience is well aware of owner Daniel Snyder’s attitude toward name changes. He says he is simply not going to do it. And he has gotten strong support on both sides of the issue.
While the whole problem regarding the team’s name continues to be in the news, the team itself is preparing for 2015 after an extremely disappointing 2014 campaign. The Redskins ON the field have their own issues, and one of them is going to involve whether Robert Griffin III, who was everyone’s darling (including Snyder’s) after his terrific rookie season, is going to be able to change enough to adapt to the offense coach Jay Gruden installed last year, which is more of the West Coast variety. It doesn’t accommodate Griffin’s talents for improvisation, and as a result it has been tough for Griffin, who was coming off an injury last season, to get himself acclimated. Frankly, it may not happen.
Vietbet patrons know that there was friction between player and coach over Griffin’s ability to be a dropback passer and make the kind of reads that are necessary to play in such an offense. It was thought that Griffin might win a power struggle with Gruden as he did with Mike Shanahan, who was unceremoniously shown the door by Snyder. But Gruden, even after a 4-12 season, kept his job. However, anyone who is even a casual football betting observer would have to admit that the heat is on.
