Cardinals in QB Quandary Again as They Tackle Angry 49ers
By Charles Jay
The San Francisco 49ers are looking for redemption. It simply didn’t seem like them to blow a lead the way they did against the Chicago Bears last week, as they went ahead 17-0 right before halftime and saw it all slip away amid a sea of mistakes. The Niners travel on Sunday to face the Arizona Cardinals, in football betting action that will kick off at 4:05 PM ET at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AZ.
Colin Kaepernick threw three interceptions last Sunday night, and the Chicago Bears, a very capable offensive team, was able to capitalize as they spoiled the debut of Levi’s Stadium with a 28-20 upset. The Niners themselves had taken advantage of three tony Romo interceptions the week before and ran up a big lead in a 28-17 victory.
The Cardinals are 2-0, and it has not come easy. In fact, it’s been a little ugly. Arizona fell behind 17-6 to the San Diego Chargers on the opening night, but came back to win 18-17, and then lost Carson Palmer with a nerve problem in his shoulder. That meant Drew Stanton, a veteran backup who had not seen official NFL action wince 2010, was pressed into service as the starter. Stanton did not have a particularly strong game, but the Cards were aided by a 71-yard punt return TD by Ted Ginn Jr. and the inability of the New York Giants to execute consistently on offense, and won 25-14.
In the NFL Betting Lines that have been posted on this game at VietBet, the 49ers are in the favorite’s role on the road:
San Francisco 49ers -3
Arizona Cardinals +3
Over 42 Points -110
Under 42 Points -110
Palmer has been limited in practice this week, not doing much throwing at all, so it looks as if Stanton is once again going to start. What we can say is that he won’t be as rusty this time. He has to be commended for coming in and playing turnover-free football, but the numbers were not anything to be impressed by; Stanton was 14 of 29 for 167 yards, and was sacked four times. NFL bettors know this was a far cry from what another former Michigan State QB, Kirk Cousins, was able to do in a backup role the same day.
Stanton has nice targets in Larry Fitzgerald, Michael Floyd and rookie John Brown, and running back Andre Ellington, who is spry for someone whose foot hurts so bad. But these guys were all on hand last Sunday, and Arizona totaled only 266 yards.
So the Niners should roll in this game, in the wake of their anger at blowing that big lead, right? Well, VietBet customers should know that it may not be as simple as all that. While it is true that San Francisco wants to come back, and indeed appears capable of doing so, this is a team that is short on defensive personnel. When you are missing linebackers NaVorro Bowman and Aldon Smith, you are missing two people who bring extraordinary talents to their positions. And the secondary has been rebuilt.
But football bettors need to realize that the Cardinals are missing people on defense, like Darnell Dockett and Daryl Washington, and John Abraham retired, them un-retired, but still can’t play because of the effects of a concussion, which has landed him on the injured reserve list. Jonathan Dwyer, a backup to Ellington, is also inactive because he has a domestic violence issue.
VietBet is definitely the place to be when it comes to seeking out the best value for your wagers with reduced juice!
