NFC Championship Game – Packers Need Some Weapons to Be Healthy

NFC Championship Game Odds Packers vs Falcons January 22nd, 2017The Green Bay Packers are going to have their work cut out for them as they go to the Georgia Dome to face the Atlanta Falcons for the right to go to the Super Bowl. In this NFC championship game, they are facing off against perhaps the NFL’s best offense, but they have shown some offense of their own over the past eight games, all of which have turned out to be victories. And there has to be some offense alright, because this defense is very banged up. But the Packers have some injury concerns on the offensive side as well, and that might impact what happens when these teams line up 3:05 PM ET on Sunday. Packers vs Falcons – CJ’s Take:

If you recall, last season Jordy Nelson had to sit out the duration with a knee injury. He came back in heroic fashion for Green Bay in 2016, catching 97 passes for 1257 yards and 14 touchdowns. But he met with some misfortune in the wild-card round of the playoffs against the New York Giants, sustaining a rib injury that continues to plague him. It was not really known whether Nelson could play in this game, and it actually might be a decision not made until game time. But it doesn’t really look good. Also, Davante Adams, who emerged as the second option among the wide receivers, got injured against the Dallas Cowboys last week. Those two receivers, along with Geronimo Allison, an undrafted rookie who has gained some of the trust of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, would create a gaping hole in this offense if they were to be absent.

Listen – whether those guys play or not, Rodgers will have people to throw to. Randall Cobb pulled in 60 passes this season, and he had three touchdowns against the Giants, including that big Hail Mary reception right before the half that pretty much buried the Giants psychologically. He has been bothered by injuries this season, but he has uncommon speed and versatility, and there could be some plays where he is actually situated in the backfield. And one of the catches that will be remembered for a long time was the one made by tight end Jared Cook, who pulled in a long pass from Rodgers to set Green Bay up for the winning field goal against the Cowboys. Cook is another guy who has been sidelined much of the season, but he is a welcome presence. It should be noted that in the earlier meeting between the Packers and Falcons, a 33-32 Atlanta victory, neither Cobb nor Cook were in the lineup.

And neither was Ty Montgomery, who was shifted from his wide receiver slot into the backfield to resurrect a running game that had disappeared. VietBet patrons know that the Packers would love to have Eddie Lacy, who averaged 5.1 yards per carry, in the lineup, as he adds an element of real power to the ground game. But that simply isn’t the case. Since Christine Michael did not get a carry last week, it would appear that most of the burden is going to be on Montgomery, who had a fine 5.9-yard average.

It all starts with Rodgers, who had a lot of people doubting him after the first eight or nine games of the season, as it looks like Green Bay was not going to be in real contention. But over the last nine games, he has thrown 24 touchdown passes with only one interception. And the Packers have turned the ball over only twice in their last eight games.
