Quarterback Questions Abound as Washington Hosts Arizona State
By Charles Jay
The Washington Huskies went through a miserable experience last Saturday, where the could just not stop the Oregon Ducks, no matter what they did. Now they have to try and beat the football odds against another offense that can also move the ball as they play host to the Arizona State Sun Devils in NCAA football betting action that is slated to get underway at 10:45 PM ET at Husky Stadium in Seattle.
U-Dub, which had played pretty good defense the week before in holding California’s high-flying offense to just seven points, gave up 554 yards to Oregon in a 45-20 loss that was the eleven straight time they had failed to win or cover the football pointspread against the Ducks.
ASU, which had a bye week after its miracle victory over USC, chalked up another impressive victory, beating Stanford 26-10 and rising to #14 in both major polls. The Sun Devils were hoping to see quarterback Taylor Kelly return to action but that did not happen; the possibility exists that both he and backup Mike Bercovici will play in this game.

In the football odds that have been posted at Vietbet on this game, the Sun Devils are the favorites:

- Washington Huskies +3
- Over/Under 61.5 Points -110
Washington added injury to its insult last week when the Huskies lost Cyler Miles, who had to leave the game with an injury to his head, which turned into a concussion. He has been in a day-to-day condition, and he will start if he is cleared to play. If he isn’t, then it looks like Troy Williams, a redshirt freshman who had to finish the game and completed five out of his ten attempts. Vietbet customers may want to know that in fall practice, Williams lost his place on the depth chart because of a habit of turning the ball over.
The Huskies find themselves diving headlong into yet another streak this week, as the Sun Devils have won eight meetings in a row, AND covered all of them against the football odds. And their chances to end that streak are probably lessened with the injuries they have suffered in the backfield. Dwayne Washington and Lavon Coleman both suffered injuries against Oregon, and the situation has gotten tot he point where Shaq Thompson, on the roster as a linebacker, may be pressed into service as a running back. Last week ASU held Stanford under 100 yards rushing for only the second time in the last 31 games.
As Vietbet patrons are well aware, one thing Washington really knows how to do is rush the passer; the Huskies are second in the nation with 27 sacks, and the ringleader is defensive end Hau’oli Kikaha, who tops all individual players in the country with 12.5.
Bercovici, who has thrown for 1322 yards despite starting just three games, has been sacked seven times. Of course, the Sun Devils have a weapon in the backfield who can keep defenses honest, and that’s DJ Foster, who has been a heck of a dual threat (612 yards rushing, 372 yards receiving).
