After Big Win, TCU Must Come Right Back and Deal with Favored Baylor
By Charles Jay
In the NCAA football odds that have been established on this game by the people at VietBet, Baylor is a clear favorite:
Baylor Bears -8
TCU Horned Frogs +8
Over/Under 67 Points -110
Last week, Texas Christian registered one of the biggest wins in its football program’s history, beating Oklahoma in Fort Worth. This has been a Top 10 team before, so they are really no strangers to success, but in the Big 12, where all of a sudden they have a chance to win the conference title, they know they have to come right back after that and beat another top-flight team. So they will visit Waco on Saturday for a date with the Baylor Bears, as they try to overcome the NCAA football odds in a game that kicks off at 3:30 PM ET on ABC.
As it is with every college team that reaches an emotional high, there are questions as to whether they can draw from that well, so to speak, again the following week. TCU’s victory over Oklahoma, which came by a 37-33 score, vaulted them into the #9 position in the Associated Press rankings, and they are also now 12th in the coaches poll. This week’s game represents a big “nut” to crack, as Baylor is rated #3 by the coaches and #5 in the AP poll.
Yet, TCU knows that he can play with this Baylor contingent, as they had one of those games last season in which they kind of snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. They would certainly like to make up for that.
In last year’s meeting, Baylor ventured to Fort Worth and pulled out a 41-38 victory by returning two interceptions for touchdowns. Obviously this is a game that TCU has had “circled” on their schedule ever since, although there was no way they could overlook the Sooners in a game that was critical for them to establish any hope of winning the Big 12 championship. At this point, with the top 10 rating, TCU has every reason to believe that that they can go into Waco and defeat Baylor, they will be very much in the running for one of the four spots in the college football playoff.
And VietBet customers were analyzing the NCAA football odds in this one may be thinking they have pretty good timing. Baylor only gained 389 yards in its victory last week against Texas, and Bryce Petty, who was hailed as a Heisman Trophy candidate at the season’s outset, only has nine touchdown passes. In the season opener against SMU he started to experience back problems, and as we know about athletes and back problems, they don’t go away that easily.
Truth be told, Trevane Boykin, a converted wide receiver was now playing quarterback for TCU, actually has more touchdown passes (10) at the moment. And his mobility really befuddled the Oklahoma defense last week. TCU has gone more up-tempo, with the spread offense, and football bettors can tell that this attack is really opened up. Of course, as a team that has permitted less than two and a half yards a carry on defense, TCU will likely make Baylor more one-dimensional than the Bears would like to be.
But VietBet patrons would certainly be interested in knowing that the Bears put money in the pockets of their backers. In fact, they’ve covered 12 straight games at home, and that has continued over to their occupancy of brand-new McLane Stadium.
