The “Red River Showdown” is a college football rivalry that is definitely very traditional, although some NCAA football betting observers don’t think it has quite the luster as in the past. On Saturday, there is certainly one very interesting storyline, at the very least, as the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners meet up at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas at Noon ET, in this ABC-televised game.
Texas is unquestionably in a transition period in Charlie Strong’s first season at the helm. Yes, they have been disappointing, but they have also suffered plenty of injuries, including one (a concussion) is going to keep quarterback David Ash out for the rest of the season. Strong, who did just fine as head coach of Louisville after being an assistant at the University of Florida, will just have to deal with it, and is trying to pump confidence into the young quarterback who has had a baptism under fire.
Oklahoma is coming off a very painful loss, and perhaps a look-ahead to this game may have been part of that. But there is no getting around the fact that the Sooners had national title hopes coming into the regular season and experienced a big blow to those hopes last weekend.
Ash may never play again, and so Texas certainly has to improvise at the all-important quarterback spot. Strong has been known throughout his career as a very hard-nosed coach and disciplinarian, but he’s had to use kid gloves to a certain extent with new quarterback Tyrone Swoope, who is better known for his running ability, and just happens to be a very unrefined passer. In fact, Swoope is barely within the top 100 in the nation in passing efficiency. So between that and some of the offensive kine injuries Texas is had to endure, you can imagine that they are going to struggle to score points. Under Swoope, they have averaged just 13.5 points per game.
VietBet customers saw that Oklahoma, which is ranked ninth in the nation in the coaches poll and 11th by the Associated Press, could not get the job done against TCU last week, and they had particular difficulties reining in Trevane Boykin, the athletic TCU quarterback. They have gotten a great boost from running back Samje Per]rine, who has come in to be the true go-to running back as a freshman, at a position where the Sooners are deep.
But now they are faced with a very critical Big 12 game, as well as a revenge situation. Last year Texas, as a 12-point underdog in the NCAA football betting odds, pulled off a surprisingly easy 38-20 upset, and many of the Oklahoma players have likely been thinking about that ever since. Obviously no one expects the Sooners to go to sleep in this one, but VietBet patrons should take note that the powerful Baylor offense could “only” manage 28 points and 389 yards last week against the Longhorn defense.
At VietBet, you can have the pleasure of taking advantage of reduced juice on all the football action this weekend. That is a big plus, and a great reason to open up an account!
