Luck was not himself last season, and the rumors were that he was playing hurt, with Chuck Pagano not disclosing everything. In the seven games in which he played, he completed just 55% of his passes with a dozen interceptions. Then he went down, and the Colts had to use a number of alternatives, including Matt Hasselbeck, Charlie Whitehurst, Ryan Lindley and Freeman, and Hasselbeck actually didn’t work out too badly (61%). The final tally was 8-8, losing out to the Houston Texans by a single game.

Certainly,Matthew Stafford felt transformed, as he had 17 TD passes and only one interception over the last seven games.
The Lions have to proceed without Calvin Johnson, who retired from the game. That obviously leaves a big void, as he caught 88 passes for 1214 yards last year. Cooter will have to be able to spread the ball among a few receivers, and that is why contributions are essential from newly-acquired Marvin Jones and Anquan Boldin. Let’s not forget as well that Theo Riddick was a valuable asset out of the backfield, catching 80 passes. But Riddick only had 133 yards on the ground; what the Lions really need is someone to carry the mail – Ameer Abdullah was not a big hit as a rookie, gaining just 597 yards, and so they are looking for a lot more out of him.
