Giants May Be Lesser of Two Evils Against Redskins
By Charles Jay
The Washington Redskins were humiliated last week, and at home no less. They gained just 206 yards in the process of being shut out 24-0 by the St. Louis Rams. Native Americans everywhere must be laughing at them right now, not to mention Vietbet customers. And speculation is at an all-time high as to how much of a shakeup this franchise will go through in the off-season. On Sunday, the Redskins take their show on the road as they face the New York Giants in football betting action that will begin at 1 PM ET at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ.
There is some uncertainty about the Washington quarterback situation at the moment. In the process of getting sacked by St. Louis’ Robert Quinn last week, Colt McCoy suffered a neck strain. It is anticipated, however, that doctors will clear him to participate in the game, and coach Jay Gruden has indicated that if McCoy gets such clearance, he will be the starter. If not, he will go with Robert Griffin III instead. Griffin did come into the game last Sunday after McCoy was forced to leave.
The Giants come into this game on something of an upswing. Last week they broke their seven-game losing streak with a 36-7 victory over the Tennessee Titans, limiting Tennessee 207 total yards. Like the Redskins, they are far out of the playoff race.
Washington is 3-10 straight-up and 4-9 against the spread, while the Giants are 4-9 straight-up and 5-8 ATS.
In the football betting odds that have been posted on this game by the people at Vietbet, the Giants are favored at home:
New York Giants -7 (+100)
Washington Redskins +7 (-120)
Over 47 points -110
Under 47 points -110
A couple of weeks ago, when the Giants blew a 21-0 lead against the Jacksonville Jaguars, a lot of it was blamed on the fact that this team let up all offensively in the second half, and it was kind of bizarre that New York led Tennessee 23-0 at the half, but this time they did not take the foot off the gas pedal. Tennessee did not post any offensive points, with their only score coming on a turnover.
The rookies took center stage last weekend. Andre Williams, who has had his ups and downs in his first season out of Boston College, gained 131 yards on the ground, while Odell Beckham continued a masterful first season in the NFL, with eleven catches for 130 yards. No rookie before him has ever had six consecutive games with 90 or more yards and receptions. And currently, he has more catches in the last six games than anyone in the league.
Vietbet customers are mindful of such a thing, because Washington’s secondary has been a source of misery for Gruden and his staff, giving up 28 touchdown passes, with only five interceptions. The Redskins are lacking in so many fundamentals that they have managed to completely nullify the fact that they have outgained the opposition on an overall basis. They have committed 22 turnovers, and as football bettors know, this can spell disaster. So can of the inability of an offensive line to protect to the quarterback, and Washington is second-worst in the league, surrendering 46 sacks. Trent Williams is a major culprit. Whoever will be playing behind center may be running for his life, as the Giants have registered 15 sacks in their last two games.
