Eagles vs Bears on MNF September 19th, 2016 Week 2 NFL Betting PreviewIf you are a handicapper, you always want to keep an eye on a rookie quarterback when he is making his first road start the NFL. Such is the case with Carson Wentz, who the Philadelphia Eagles immediately pressed into action as their #1 quarterback upon the trade of Sam Bradford. By all accounts, Wentz looked like a veteran last week against the Cleveland Browns, and this week he’ll be challenged a little more sternly by the Chicago Bears, in the Monday night football game at Soldier Field in Chicago. Game time is a 8:30 p.m. ET, and while VietBet customers are watching it on ESPN, they can engage in very lively real-time wagering through the facilities provided by Live Betting Ultra.

A Closer Look at the Philadelphia Eagles:

  • Season record: 1-0 SU,1-0 ATS
  • Philadelphia is 4-2 ATS in their last 6 games
  • Philadelphia is 4-2 SU in their last 6 games
  • The total has gone OVER in 6 of Philadelphia’s last 8 games

Wentz started for two seasons at North Dakota State, leading that team to a pair of FCS championships. But because that was not the highest level of college football, there was some skepticism as to whether he could step into an NFL lineup anytime soon. Well, the Eagles, who were planning to start Bradford at quarterback, got an offer they couldn’t refuse from Minnesota Vikings, who were looking for help at the position following the injury to Teddy Bridgewater. Minnesota offered a first and fourth-round draft pick for Bradford, and Philadelphia but that deal in motion. Then they handed the ball to Wentz, who went 22 437 for 278 yards and no turnovers last Sunday against Cleveland.

It was also a successful debut for head coach Doug Pederson, whose team had the ball for over 39 minutes. Really, it was child’s play against the Browns, who were operating with a very ineffective Robert Griffin III (who has since gone on injured reserve). Now they go up against the Bears, who took a lead into the fourth quarter against the Houston Texans last week, only to go limp on offense.

The Eagles are in a bit of a transition period, as they go from Chip Kelly’s no-huddle spread offense to Pederson’s version of the West Coast attack. Wentz played a pro-style system in college, and that probably explains how he was able to step in and assume the role of the starter after missing most of the pre-season with a rib injury.

A Closer Look at the Chicago Bears:

  • Season record: 0-1 SU,0-1 ATS
  • Chicago is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games
  • Chicago is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games
  • The total has gone OVER in 4 of Chicago’s last 6 games

The Bears have to protect Jay Cutler better. He was sacked five times last week by an aggressive Houston front, and one of the things the Eagles are committed to doing is putting some pressure on the passer, as their new defensive coordinator is the very crafty Jim Schwartz, who previously led the Detroit Lions to the playoffs as a head coach, and then turned the Buffalo Bills into one of the top defenses in the league as their coordinator. Chicago has a standout pair of guards in Kyle Long and Josh Sitton, but they are not that strong on the outside of the offensive line. And they did not impress in establishing a running game in their first regular season contest going without Matt Forte (who is now with the Jets). Jeremy Langford had 17 carries for 57 yards, and they have to be able to run better than that to make themselves really effective.

NFL bettors have probably noticed that the Bears have developed a respectable defensive unit with some playmakers. Truth be told, there was good news and bad news coming out of last week’s game in Houston. The good news is that Chicago held the Texans to just 4.8 yards per play. The bad news is that Houston was able to convert 12 of their 20 third-down situations. Let’s see what first-round pick Leonard Floyd can accomplish rushing from the outside, as he will deal with Philadelphia’s Pro Bowl left tackle, Jason Peters.

Next up:

  • Philadelphia home to Pittsburgh Sunday, September 25
  • Chicago at Dallas Sunday, September 25
