Dolphins vs Bills Odds – Betting Preview

The Dolphins had a very strong effort on the defensive end on Monday against the Pats, bringing them a 27-20 victory, and they got a lot of encouraging signs out of their ground game. If you remember, they traded Jay Ajayi away to the Philadelphia Eagles, leaving them without a genuine featured back. But Kenyan Drake has stepped into that role quite nicely, with 120 yards against the Broncos and 84 more against the Patriots. He runs hard and he has speed. And currently, he is averaging 4.8 yards per carry. Miami is currently 6-7 straight-up and 5-6-2 ATS.

The Bills played through a terrific snowstorm last weekend against Indianapolis, and survived a late scare to take the game into overtime, where LeSean McCoy ran 21 yards with a touchdown, part of a day in which he carried 32 times for 156 yards. Tyrod Taylor was missing from the lineup with a knee injury, and then Nathan Peterman, the backup who had such disastrous results against the Chargers a month before, suffered a concussion. They were down to Joe Webb, who mostly played special teams for them. But Hill managed to hit a long pass play in the OT that led to McCoy’s winning run. That victory brought the Bills to 7-6 straight-up and 7-5-1 against the pointspread.

Because the Baltimore Ravens lost, Buffalo finds itself right there in a battle for wild card position. They have the same record as the Ravens, Kansas City Chiefs and Chargers, but of course they got trampled by the Bolts. They did, however, beat Kansas City, so if it came down to something between those two teams, they would win the tiebreaker. They just have to keep winning, and if they can affect a season sweep over Miami, they could finish 9-7.

To do that they would have to overcome a Dolphin team that has improved on the offensive end. Over the last six games they have averaged 24.5 points, and Jay Cutler is someone who seems more in command of the offense right now. That should not be a surprise, since he worked under head coach Adam Gase’s system while he was with the Chicago Bears. But he is getting contributions not only from Jarvis Landry, but from Kenny Stills and Devante Parker as well, and we have already talked about the ground game.

Taylor has practiced and it looks like head coach Sean McDermott is going to give him the start for the Bills, if at all possible. He has been sacked 34 times, which is quite frequent, but he’s only thrown four interceptions in 326 attempts. Let’s see if the weather is a lot better this Sunday than it was last weekend, but if there is snow and cold and wind, that certainly isn’t going to be something the Dolphins are used to.
