The Ohio State Buckeyes have a dilemma, but by all accounts it’s a pretty good dilemma, as they are trying to decide which quarterback to go with as they enter the 2015 season. Knowing coach Urban Meyer, he will make us of all three of the outstanding guys he has at his disposal, but who will start Monday night’s opener against the Virginia Tech Hokies is probably a proposition in itself. Think about it – Braxton Miller was a former Big Ten offensive player of the year, and when he hurt his shoulder before the start of last season, Ohio State was thought to be finished as a national championship contender. But Meyer, who constructed his spread option scheme so that various players could be plugged into the situation, promptly inserted JT Barrett, who went on to be an all-conference performer and Heisman hopeful. But when Barrett got injured, the Buckeyes were down to their third-string option. It was at that point where we really saw how strong Meyer’s “plug and play” ability was, as Cardale Jones, who had taken precious few snaps in his collegiate career, came up with three brilliant performances, as did running back Ezekiel Elliott, who dominated Wisconsin, Alabama and Oregon on his way to finishing with 1878 net yards on the season. Elliott comes in as one of the favorites for the Heisman, and Ohio State brings back every potent offensive weapon aside from wide receiver Devin Smith as they look to repeat as national champs.
Is this a roadblock, though? Virginia Tech was the only team to pin a defeat on the Buckeyes last year, and they did so in Columbus. Now they will have the defending champs in front of a frenzied Blacksburg audience, and what will be Ohio State’s only game of the season on natural turf.
There has actually been some talk that Meyer may put Miller, Jones and Barrett on the field all at once in some situations. That would be interesting. Miller has been working out a lot at wide receiver, possibly looking ahead to where his NFL future might be. With four returning starters on the offensive line, it is likely that Ohio State will keep chugging along. Miller might be the best runner of the three, although Jones is thought to have the strongest arm.
But Vietbet customers should not forget that there is a notable absence on the Ohio State defensive unit, as John Bosa, the All-American, has been suspended, along with three other teammates, and won’t be appearing year. Bosa is a junior defensive end who made first-team All-America last year.
