Bears vs Buccaneers Odds and Betting Preview
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were riding a great wave of momentum as they headed into last Monday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, because quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who had to fill in for Jameis Winston, who was serving a three-game suspension, had thrown for more than 400 yards in consecutive weeks, in games where the Bucs beat the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles and another playoff team, the New Orleans Saints. Well, the bubble burst to an extent, but this is still a highly-functioning offense as it travels to Soldier Field for a date with the Chicago Bears, beginning at 1 PM ET on Sunday.

Buccaneers vs Bears Odds – CJ’s Take
A lot of people expected Fitzpatrick to implode against the Steelers because his pattern has not been to be prosperous for that long, and in a sense, he DID implode, with three interceptions in the first half, as Pittsburgh eventually built a 30-10 lead. But “Fitzmagic” was evident in the second half, as he led the Bucs on a comeback, falling just short (30-27). He has now thrown for 400 or more yards in three straight games, which is a record.
So you have to wonder why they would bench him in favor of Winston, who is now off suspension. The answer is that they probably wouldn’t. But nothing is for sure as of press time. Whatever happens, Fitz would like to leave lines of communication open with the guy he replaced.
“Communication is probably the most important thing in situations like this,” he told a reporter, “and just making sure everything is out there and you’re open and you’re honest with that. I think everybody can respect that.”
The big question that has to be asked about this game is whether the Bears will be able to bring out “dark side” in Fitzpatrick if he does indeed get the start. He’ll have to deal with some pressure from the pass rush, which has chalked up 14 sacks already, and we have to take note that given what we have seen thus far, the Bears, with the addition of linebackers Khalil Mack and Roquan Smith, have to have as good a chance as anybody to win the NFC North.
It was a little disquieting that Chicago got into an early hole they almost could not get themselves out of in Arizona last week, as the Cardinals went up two touchdowns against them early. They did manage to squeak by, and maybe that’s what good teams do when they’re not having their best day. It took some mental toughness to come back from the come-from-ahead 24-23 loss at Green Bay in the opening week.
Second-your quarterback Mitchell Trubisky is throwing high percentage passes, which is what Matt Nagy wants him to do in this offense. He is completing 69% of his throws, although he’s not getting down the field much (5.7 yards per attempt). Where Tampa Bay has found itself vulnerable is in the secondary, and you have to wonder how much Chicago can really do to exploit that.
One thing is for certain – the Buccaneers are not getting too far with the ground game, averaging just about three yards per carry. What can Fitz do, or Famous Jameis, if they decide to go that way? Maybe this is a two-quarterback afternoon for them. Whatever – the Bucs seem to be capable of trading points.
