Browns vs Saints Odds and Betting Preview
Well, at least the Cleveland Browns didn’t lose last week. But truth be told, it was better than that; the Browns, who were 0-16 last season, overcame a two-touchdown deficit against the Pittsburgh Steelers, who won the AFC North with a 13-3 record. Through a sloppy overtime period in the elements, they came out of it with a 21-21 tie, which represents progress. Now they set their sights on a game against the New Orleans Saints, which will kick off at 1 PM ET on FOX from the Superdome in New Orleans.

Browns vs Saints Odds and Preview
It was windy and rainy and that hampered offense, so neither quarterback had a banner day. Ben Roethlisberger was intercepted three times, and Tyrod Taylor went just 15 of 40 for 197 yards. The Steelers also lost three fumbles, so Cleveland had the benefit of six turnovers to work with.
Indoors, those conditions won’t be present, which could be a blessing or a curse. The Saints have to come into this game angry after losing a wild 48-40 decision to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but the offense wasn’t guilty of malpractice. In fact, Drew Brees threw for 439 yards. And there were some tremendous individual performances by the skill players – Alvin Kamara did not produce much in the ground attack, but caught nine passes for 112 yards. And Mike Thomas had 180 receiving yards to top everybody for the week.
Of course, there is the speculation about when the Browns are going to allow Baker Mayfield to take over the offense. Well, it is likely that the Heisman Trophy winner and #1 overall draft choice will have to wait a little while longer, even though Brees told reporters this week that Mayfield “could be a lot better than me.” Taylor has an additional dimension to him, in that he can run with the ball, and he scampered for 77 yards against the Steelers. With the Browns still trying to solidify the left side of the offensive line in the wake of Joe Thomas’ retirement, mobility is critical.
The Saints really have to be wondering what happened to their stop unit after the Bucs’ Ryan Fitzpatrick carved them up for 417 yards last week. Cleveland does not necessarily have the kind of big receiver like Mike Evans who causes everybody problems, but they do have Jarvis Landry, who led the NFL in receptions last year, as well as Josh Gordon, who saw action last week and caught a touchdown pass. Don’t expect Hue Jackson’s team to be as woeful as it was in last year’s winless campaign.
But this is a tough assignment, going indoors against a team that thrives on the fast track. Brees is going to make things work in the passing game, regardless of who he is working with, although we saw some signs of a regression back to 2016 levels on defense. Perhaps the best way to look in this one is “over” the total of 49 points.
