Will Broncos’ Manning Continue to Do What Feels Comfortable?
By Charles Jay
Well, the Denver Broncos have gotten by their first two games of the 2015 season, and by the hair of their chinny-chin-chin, we might add. They struggled mightily on offense against the Baltimore Ravens in the opener, and were bailed out by some great defensive plays against quarterback Joe Flacco. Then, playing the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium, they found themselves down in the waning moments but saw Peyton Manning come to the rescue once again with two 80-yard scoring drives, followed by a critical turnover by running back Jamaal Charles that gave Denver the 31-24 victory. Vietbet customers are naturally asking whether we saw the real Manning in that ballgame.
Broncos vs Lions Betting Line:
In the NFL betting odds posted on this game by the people at Vietbet, Denver is the road favorite:
- Denver Broncos -3 (-120)
- Detroit Lions +3 (+100)
- Over 44.5 points -110
- Under 44.5 points -110
The Detroit Lions have been betrayed by their defense thus far, and it seemed clear last week in Minnesota that they were still suffering the aftereffects of blowing an 18-point lead against San Diego in the opener. They now sit with an 0-2 record, but they are coming home after being on the road for the first two weeks. This game gets underway at 8:30 PM ET on Sunday night on NBC, and of course through Live Betting Extra, customers can wager on the outcome in real time as the game is progressing.
Detroit has lost some key personnel on the defensive side, and that is something that is going to take its toll as the season moves along. So for the Broncos have rushed for only 130 yards in the first two games, but you know that isn’t the way head coach Gary Kubiak wants it to go, so they don’t fall behind early, expect Denver to try to pound the ball into a suddenly soft Lion defensive front.

Here’s the interesting thing about what Manning was able to do when the game was on the line in Kansas City: he found success running the no-huddle offense, and that is something of a departure from what Kubiak was trying to bring in. Is it really any secret that Manning was the true offensive coordinator ever since he arrived on the scene with the Broncos? The new head coach comes in, with his own ideas, and with the backing of management, and there is naturally going to be an adjustment. So will the Broncos go back to more of the stuff that Manning was familiar with? It would seem that Kubiak should be somewhat flexible on this issue.
Vietbet patrons know that after the departure of Ndomukoing Suh and Nick Fairley upfront, Detroit is going to be vulnerable to opposition running attacks. Thus far opponents had outgained the Lions over land by 94 yards per game. Of course, Detroit expects that to change once rookie Ameer Abdullah gets himself on track. We saw some flashes from him in the opener, although he’s only carried the rock 13 times.
Matthew Stafford took a beating against Minnesota last week, as the very physical Vikings defense dealt him eight quarterback “hits.” He suffered from severe soreness in his ribs and chest, to the extent that he had to have some x-rays done. The Broncos are no less aggressive, and you can expect that DeMarcus Ware and Von Miller will keep some heavy pressure on him. Will Stafford have enough time to get the ball down the field to his pair of very dangerous wide receivers – Calvin Johnson (12 catches, 122 yards) and Golden Tate (10 catches, 104 yards)? Between them, those guys are averaging only a little more than ten yards per reception. So the big plays may elude this team against a Denver secondary that has not had a touchdown pass thrown against it, but has come up with four interceptions, all of which have come in big situations.
