Saints vs Falcons Odds and Betting Preview
What part will familiarity play in Sunday night’s game between the New England Patriots and Detroit Lions? After all, Matt Patricia, the first-year coach of the Lions, spent many years as an assistant with the Patriots, so he knows all about the scheme and the personnel of the defending AFC champions. Of course, the flip side is that Bill Belichick knows all about Patricia’s philosophy as well. So maybe we’ll be seeing something of a chess match as these teams get together at 8:20 PM ET at Ford Field in the Motor City. And while VietBet customers are watching this one on NBC, they will have the opportunity to place wagers even after the game has begun, using the advanced technology from Live Betting Ultra.

Patriots vs Lions Odds and Week 3 Sunday Night Football Betting Preview
Things have not gone swimmingly for the Lions in the first two games. In the opener, the offense created many of the problems – specifically five interceptions of Matthew Stafford against the Jets, which led to an embarrassing 48-17 home loss. They intercepted first-time starter San Darnold on the opening play, but that basically provided their highlight for the evening.
Last week they had a tough assignment, as they traveled out to the west coast for a game against the San Francisco 49ers on their natural surface, which is always difficult for opponents. To their credit, they fought hard and rolled up 427 yards, but a 17-point Niner lead in the fourth quarter was too much for them to overcome.
The Patriots had their own problems last week, as they ran into a determined Jacksonville Jaguars team that wanted at least a measure of payback for last year’s AFC title game loss. And they got it, as they led 21-3 at the half and survived a mild New England comeback to pin a 31-20 loss on the Pats.
There is a problem evident for the Patriots now that Brandin Cooks has left – which is that they lack threats who can really turn it upfield. So Belichick is taking a chance that he can get the best out of Josh Gordon, who the Cleveland Browns lost patience with after he skipped training camp getting help for personal issues, then showed up late for practice after hurting his ankle in a promotional photo shoot. General manager John Dorsey said “Whatever,” and put him on the market, and so New England picked up Gordon in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick. Remember that Gordon led the NFL in receiving yards in 2013, and he had a touchdown against Pittsburgh in Cleveland’s opener, so there is some upside to him. And if there is an organization that knows how to capitalize on upside, it’s these Pats.
Now all they have to do is develop some kind of running back who can give them production between the tackles. First-round draft pick Sony Michel (Georgia) came in with some high expectations, and maybe he’ll realize them. But somebody has to step up. They have James White, but he is mainly a pass-catcher out of the backfield.
The Lions talked a lot about how they were going to be a team that established itself on the ground, and they went out and acquired former Patriot LeGarrette Blount as well as rookie Kerryon Johnson. But in the first two games they have been outrushed 359-137 by their opponents. So they are simply getting beaten at the line of scrimmage. And while admittedly big leads on the part of their foes has caused some shifting “on the fly” in the game plan, when you throw it 105 times and run it 33 times that is kind of ridiculous. So the mission here will be to stick close early so that they can get some more balance; that is unless all the run game talk is lip service.
Detroit’s best cover corner, Darius Slay, has been listed on the official injury report as “questionable” in the wake of a concussion, but we wouldn’t count on him not playing. Even so, the rest of this Lions defense has an awful lot to answer for, and the Patriots are famous for rebounding after defeats, going 25-7 ATS in those situations in the last decade.
