Carson Wentz, who suffered a knee injury late last season at the Coliseum against the Los Angeles Rams, causing him to miss the entire Super Bowl run, has been cleared and is ready to get back into action. Last year he had an outstanding ratio of 33 touchdowns against only seven interceptions, making the leap in just his second season to become a legitimate MVP candidate.

The Eagles have struggled just a bit with Nick Foles behind center. Foles has completed a lot of short passes, but he is averaging only 5.5 yards per attempt, and big-time support from the run game just hasn’t been there. Last week was a big disappointment, as the champs lost a 27-21 decision to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and their red-hot quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick.

What we will get out of Wentz is something we are not sure of. And we mean that; he hasn’t really taken any contact, and so it is going to be something of a shock for him when he gets it in this ballgame. Not that the Colts have a fierce pass rush, and they could indeed be vulnerable in the secondary, having given up 73% completions over the first two games. But things might be rusty at first. That would be only natural.

Jay Ajayi leads the way in rushing, but he only has 85 yards. Indianapolis faces the same kind of situation with its own ground game, which is somewhat limited. On the part of both of these teams, they have essentially run the same number of passing plays and the same number of running plays, so they are reacting to a lack of balance, although the Eagles obviously have more upside when they travel by land. Maybe one of the things that will be a difference-making factor in this matchup is the potentially explosive nature of TY Hilton, who could get deep if Luck decides to throw the ball down the field. That hasn’t really happened in the Colts’ first two games, as he is averaging only 5.9 yards per attempt. And yes, Indianapolis may have taken advantage of a Redskins team that really came out flat last Sunday.

But Philadelphia has had anything but a “cruise” on offense in their two games. Certainly, they have not played like a team you want to lay a lot of points with. We do admit that there could be a certain emotional boost attached to the return of Wentz to the lineup, but the way they let Fitzpatrick, who has been a journeyman for most of his career, go up and down the field, we have to believe that Luck could find some success, especially as if he is able to go up-tempo and prevent the Eagles from getting a lot of rotation out of their defensive linemen.
