The Pittsburgh Steelers finished in the top five in both total offense and total defense last season, and they got the expected result – a division title. However, Rudolph’s accomplished teammate from OSU, wide receiver James Washington, should get playing time and rounds out a really good set of receivers. He was taken on the second round, and Pittsburgh let Martavis Bryant go, as perhaps he wasn’t worth all the complaining.

With a 13-3 record, Pittsburgh won this division by four games, and if things are able to fall into place once again, it could be another runaway. Obviously their big problem last year was that they couldn’t beat the Jacksonville Jaguars, in the regular season or the playoffs.
Le’Veon Bell will get into the fold, then be the dual-threat performer he has often been in the past. He did have over 400 touches last season, though, and you have to wonder if there is a point at which he will wear himself out and hit the wall. There is some depth in the backfield, although perhaps not enough. But when you look at the numbers, they are stellar; Bell had 1291 rushing yards and 655 more catching passes.
Defensively this team surrendered 307 yards and 19.2 points per game, and they really didn’t lose very much on that side of the ball. With one big exception, that is. Ryan Shazier, the two-time Pro Bowl linebacker, suffered a spinal cord injury in early December against Cincinnati and that will certaionly keep him out of action for the entire 2018 season, if not longer.
But they did gain a couple of guys who could become key pieces. Free safety Terrel Edmonds came with the 28th overall pick out of Virginia Tech, and Morgan Burnett, a strong safety who played for the Green Bay Packers last season, signed as a free agent. Remember that the Steelers also have Joe Haden at one of the corners, and he missed some time with injury last season.
We won’t say that they are stacked on the stop unit, but we would say that as long as Roethlisberger has his key weapons, including the aforementioned Bell and Antonio Brown, who has hauled in 343 passes the last three seasons, they can make up for any defensive deficiencies in a division like this.
