Dallas Cowboys vs Cleveland Browns November 6th, 2016 Week 9 NFL Betting PreviewWell, the Dallas Cowboys continue to amaze, as they have now emerged victorious in six of their seven games this season. Will their meeting with the Cleveland Browns, the NFL’s only winless team, be a “gimme”? Unquestionably the Browns have had their struggles, but they have given a few teams some anxiety this season, the laetst of which was the New York Jets, who had to come from 13 points behind in the second half to beat them last week. The Browns will host the Cowboys in a game beginning at 1 PM ET on Sunday at FirstEnergy Stadium, and VietBet customers have a unique opportunity to place wagers on this game after it has begun, utilizing the state-of-the-art technology available through Live Betting Ultra.

Dallas Cowboys vs Cleveland Browns – CJ’s Take:

The Cowboys have undoubtedly had some great leadership from a rookie at quarterback. Dak Prescott, the fourth-round draft pick out of Mississippi State, threw only his second interception of the season in last week’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Folks who watched that game as it was televised nationally on NBC also witnessed Prescott being able to create a lot of plays with his feet. That is one bonus the Cowboys get with him, compared to his predecessor, Tony Romo. More on that in a moment or two.

The Browns have gone through a lot of quarterback changes this season, and the latest involved Josh McCown coming back into the lineup in place of Cody Kessler, who was sidelined with a concussion. McCown completed 25 of his 49 passes against the Jets, but could not move this team enough in the second half, as they turned a 20-7 halftime lead into a 31-28 defeat. That story has been heard far too many times around Cleveland, and it is only the recent success of the Cavaliers and Indians that prevents this team from taking more abuse.

It’s no secret that much of the Cowboy success this season has been tied to the surprising play of Prescott under center. And now Romo, who broke a bone in his back during the pre-season, is getting close to the point where he is sufficiently healthy to play. So obviously in a football-crazed city like Dallas, there is going to be a lot of controversy about that. Is Romo going to be a backup? Well, you can imagine there have been a lot of conversations between Romo and owner Jerry Jones, who has been his champion from the beginning, about what was going to happen when Romo had healed well enough to play. And we are almost certain that Jones assured Romo he would still be the first-string quarterback. Even though Jones liked Prescott enough to draft him, and had enough confidence in him that he did not go out and shop immediately for a veteran backup, he obviously is surprised about how well Prescott has played. So this past week he began talking about things like “chemistry”, leading most people to believe the old adage applies here – “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” We are not expecting a change anytime soon with the Cowboys.

And as VietBet patrons know by now, there is no controversy whatsoever at the running back spot. Ezekiel Elliott has taken that ball and run with it, to pardon the pun. He currently leads the NFL with 799 rushing yards, and he is doing a very good Emmitt Smith imitation. Now Elliott should get a little bit of a charge from going back into Buckeye country, where he is obviously very popular. Cleveland does not stop a heck of a lot of people on the ground; the Jets averaged almost five yards per carry last week. And it is unlikely that these guys can trade points with the Cowboys. But if you’re looking for something encouraging, Terrelle Pryor, another former Ohio State Buckeye, had 101 yards receiving, and the running backs – Duke Johnson and Isaiah Crowell – had a combined 121 yards in catches. The Browns hired Paul DiPodesta, of “Moneyball” fame, as an executive in the off-season, but they still haven’t figured out a metric that will help them play a full 60 minutes of football. That’s really been the problem with this year’s edition of the “Mistake by the Lake.”

Next up for both the Dallas Cowboys and the Cleveland Browns:

  • Dallas at Pittsburgh Sunday, November 13
  • Cleveland at Baltimore Thursday, November 10
