Browns vs Bengals October 23rd, 2016 Week 7 NFL Betting PreviewThe Cincinnati Bengals may have caught a break last week when Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger went down with an injury, because with a record of 2-4, they run the risk of losing a lot of ground in the AFC North. Browns vs Bengals – CJ’s Take:

Cincinnati, which has made the playoffs each the last five seasons, aspires to be one of the elite squads in the NFL, but they have not looked like it the last couple of weeks. They were flat coming out against the Dallas Cowboys, spotting Dallas a 28-0 lead, and that was too much to come back from. Then they went from facing a rookie quarterback in Dak Prescott to one of the great veterans of all time in Tom Brady, who shredded them for 29 completions in 35 attempts in a game where the Patriots pulled away by a 35-17 score. So clearly Cincinnati need a confidence-booster. And who better to provide at then the only winless team left in the NFL?

This may not be a cakewalk for the Bengals, however. Even though Cleveland does not have enough personnel, and they are outclassed much of the time, there is no quit in this bunch, and that usually means something when it comes to the “backdoor cover.” That’s what they got last week against Tennessee, scoring a late touchdown in the 28-26 loss. Actually, this team should have had a good chance of bringing the game into in overtime., And there has been some criticism of first-year head coach Hue Jackson for electing to go for two-point conversion when his team had closed the gap to 28-19. They missed that, making it a two-possession game.

Cleveland likes what it has been getting out of rookie quarterback Cody Kessler, and he will get another start this Sunday. Robert Griffin III suffered a shoulder injury in the season opener, and Josh McCown injured HIS shoulder the next week. That pressed Kessler into service, and he hasn’t done too badly for himself, as he has completed 66% of his passes with only one interception. Last week against Tennessee he was sacked six times, but also had 336 yards through the air. And he has really been making use of Terrelle Pryor, the former Ohio State quarterback, who also started at that position for the Raiders, takes a few snaps here and there for the Browns, but has mostly developed a reputation this season as a receiver, with 33 catches.

The Browns can also establish a rushing game, and that is different than it’s been in recent years. As VietBet customers take a look at the league leaders, they will see Isaiah Crowell among them, at 5.2 yards per carry. He has 432 yards overall, and that is despite only 16 last week against the Titans. There is no question that they need to work him a lot more deeply into the game plan.

The Bengals, like the Browns, need to protect their quarterback better. Andy Dalton has suffered 19 sacks already, and that is one less than he experienced all of last season, while he was healthy. The good news is that between Dalton, AJ Green and the other receivers, they can exploit a pretty porous Cleveland secondary, which may or may not have Joe Haden in action this weekend, and which lost safety Jordan Poyer with a lacerated kidney last week. They simply do not do a good job of stopping people.

Last year Cincinnati scored the two-game sweep, winning by scores of 31-10 and 37-3. Jackson likes to think his team has a little better direction this time around, but they simply have to find a way to win.
