Lions Hope Defense Can Carry Them on Road vs. Cowboys

The Detroit Lions can be a formidable foe for just about anybody because of the way they play defense. But will they be able to carry that “roar” with them on the road? We will find that out on Sunday, when all of the chips are on the table in the NFC wild card round, as they visit the Dallas Cowboys. The Lions got to this point by playing great defense and scoring just enough. It used to be the other way around, if you know what we mean. Murray, who is a viable candidate for league MVP, led the league with 1845 yards, and the residual effect was taking a lot of the pressure off Tony Romo, who wound up having a great season (34 TD’s, 9 INT’s, 8.5 yards per attempt) as enemy defensive lines couldn’t just tee off on him.
Detroit, as mentioned, has the ability to keep Murray under relative control. The Lions forced three-and-outs 27% of the time, and ranked fourth in the league in yards allowed per drive. They also got a big boost this week when Ndamukong Suh, the All-Pro defensive tackle who had stepped on Aaron Rodgers’ leg during last week’s game and caught a suspension for it, had it reduced to a fine when it was appealed.
