Chiefs Need to Snap Skid with Revenge Game Against Raiders
By Charles Jay
Well, one of the reasons the Oakland Raiders may have laid down and rolled over in St. Louis a couple of weeks ago is that they were loading up for Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers. And, with possibly a little help from San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh, who looked like he tanked, they came up with their most satisfying effort of the season. The Raiders have won only two games, and their other victory came against the Kansas City Chiefs, who will be looking to extract some payback in Sunday’s NFL betting action, which kicks off at 1 PM ET at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
The Raiders are 2-11 straight-up (7- 6 ATS), and it looks as if they are going to have one of the top choices in next year’s NFL Draft. Meanwhile, the Chiefs are fighting for their playoff lives, with a 7-6 straight-up record, although they have put money in the pockets of their football betting backers with a 9-4 ledger against the football pointspread.
In the previous meeting, Oakland defeated Kansas City 24-20, with the big-play being a 90-yard touchdown run by Latavius Murray.
In the NFL betting lines posted on this game by the folks at Vietbet, the Chiefs are double-digit favorites:
Kansas City Chiefs -10
Oakland Raiders +10
Over 41.5 points -110
Under 41.5 points -110
Rookie Derek Carr looked like a seasoned professional last week against the Niners, completing 22 of 28 passes for 245 yards. And it seems that the Raiders were able to stymie the non-imaginative San Francisco offense at every turn. It was an enormously satisfying victory, and it came against the man who is rumored to be in line for the head-coaching job their next season (Harbaugh). Certainly that brought some of the best out of interim coach Tony Sparano and his staff.
Vietbet customers are aware that not only are the Chiefs in revenge mode here, they are also coming in on a three-game losing streak. After the defeat against Oakland, they went to Denver and lost, and then went limp in the second half against Arizona while going down to a 17-14 loss. So they are looking up at several teams in the wild-card race at the moment. That includes the San Diego Chargers in their own division (the AFC West).
Unbelievably, Kansas City still has no touchdowns from a wide receiver this season. Alex Smith, who has thrown only six interceptions, is a low-risk proposition, which puts him approximately in the same league as Carr, who has been sacked only 16 times but averages only 5.7 yards per passing attempt. NFL bettors know that the difference between these teams, for purposes of this discussion, might be Jamaal Charles, the running back who averages 5.2 yards per carry but disappeared in the second half and Arizona last week.
An interesting question for Vietbet patrons to ponder is whether the Kansas City pass rush will be any kind of a factor here. Carr’s low sack total, which is in stark contrast to his brother David’s propensity to get dumped when he was a rookie in Houston, is a by-product of him getting rid of the ball very quickly; hence, the very short yardage on the passes. While the Raiders have only registered 18 sacks on the part of their defensive line, Kansas City linebacker Justin Houston has 16 all by himself. But can he get to Carr?
