Last week, 49ers coach Jim Tomsula benched Colin Kaepernick and replaced him with Blaine Gabbert. Wilson has been sacked 33 times, which might seem surprising for a quarterback who has as much ability to run with the football as he does. Wilson has 355 rushing yards, with a 5.5-yard average. But in nine games, he’s only got 10 touchdown passes. And the Seahawks have lost their last two games at home – to Arizona, and then previous to that, to the Carolina Panthers.

It is probably instructive to take a look at the last three meetings that have taken place between these squads. Last year, Seattle beat San Francisco by scores of 17-7 and 19-3, and in those games the Niners had a total of 205 passing yards. This season, the Seahawks took a 20-3 decision, holding San Francisco to just eight first downs and 142 total yards. So as you can see, there is not much this Niner offense can do against this opponent. And we seriously doubt whether there would be a lot of improvement under somebody like Gabbert, who doesn’t have nearly the mobility that Kaepernick has. However, Tomsula felt he had to make some kind of a move at the position. We’ll see if the former starter comes in for relief if things don’t go well.
