The Detroit Lions have finished with a 9-7 record last couple of seasons, but they have found out, if they did not know already, that it really is a big leap from wild card-level to the point where you can start challenge for conference championships. VietBet customers might want to look for an added emphasis on the ground game this season in the Motor City, where previously it was nowhere to be found.

2018 Detroit Lions Odds and Betting Preview
Obviously any talk of offense with the Lions has to start with quarterback Matthew Stafford, but he has been throwing the ball too much in recent years, because Detroit couldn’t seem to generate anything on the ground. So they have made some changes. One of the more significant moves was to fire head coach Jim Caldwell and bring in Matt Patricia, who had been the defensive coordinator in New England. But consistent with this hard-nosed approach they are looking to take, the Lions went for running back help, both in free agency and the draft.
Coming aboard is LeGarrette Blount, who is not only a bruising runner, but also very capable of performing in the post-season. And of course, Patricia is very familiar with him from their days together with the Patriots. Also, Kerryon Johnson, a running back from Auburn, was drafted in the second round. Johnson has speed and could make an impact very early. Ameer Abdullah is still around, as is Theo Riddick, more of a pass-catching specialist. Jim Bob Cooter, the offensive coordinator with a sharp mind who was retained by Patricia, definitely wants to establish the run, so everybody is on the same page.
Detroit had a subpar year defensively, finishing #27 in the NFL in total defense, and they have added some people in an attempt to solidify the linebacker situation. Christian Jones and Devon Kennard have come to Detroit from Chicago and the New York Giants, respectively, and they should be starting immediately. The general feeling here, however, is that Detroit did not do quite enough to affect a real turnaround on the defensive side of the ball, to where it could become a difference-maker in the division. Maybe Patricia can “coach them up.”
The key thing to remember about the Lions is that they don’t want to have to rely on Stafford to throw for a lot of yards. Obviously he can get the job done, and his numbers reflect that – last season he threw for 4446 yards and 29 touchdowns. And they have added a likely starting center in Frank Ragnow, from the University of Arkansas. We are thinking that the emphasis on a ground attack is more than lip service, but they are in tough in this division. Minnesota is going to be tough to topple, and Green Bay will be much more formidable with a healthy Aaron Rodgers.
